OpenID Connect (Authorization Code Flow) with Red Hat SSO

Covering configuration and demonstration with a test application

Summary

OpenID Connect (OIDC) has emerged as the de facto standard for end-user authentication with mobile apps, Single Page Applications, API-based systems, and more. In this white paper, we explain how to configure Red Hat SSO v7.1 for OIDC with the Authorization Code Authentication Flow and demonstrate usage with a simple test application. This configuration is used as the basis for more sophisticated examples in later posts.

Red Hat SSO v7.1 fully implements the OIDC specification (and, by extension, the OAuth2 specification).

This White Paper Includes:
  • The Red Hat SSO v7.1 configuration details for the OIDC Authorization Code Authentication Flow.

  • A look at why OpenID Connect has emerged as the de facto authentication standard for mobile apps, modern web applications, and interaction with APIs.

  • An introduction to the OAuth2 + OIDC Debugger application which is available on Levvel’s public git repository list.
